A.J. Brown returned from a four-game absence due to an ankle injury, taking the field for the New England Patriots against the New York Jets on Sunday.
Though the Patriots secured a 26–19 victory, Brown’s debut was underwhelming, managing just three receptions for 27 yards and two missed catches, alongside a third drop on an onside kick. Despite the modest production, Brown played a significant role in the offense, logging 52 of 68 total snaps—more than any other Patriots wide receiver.
His heavy workload stemmed partly from Romeo Doubs’ early shoulder injury, which left the Patriots with limited receiving options after the fifth offensive snap. Head coach Mike Vrabel acknowledged the necessity of Brown’s involvement, noting the team’s reliance on available players amid injuries to key offensive linemen like Alijah Vera-Tucker, Ben Brown, and Morgan Moses, who all left the game early.
The Patriots’ offensive line also faced challenges, with eight players sharing snaps due to injuries and rotations, including young backs like Efton Chism and Eli Raridon seeing increased action.
