Santa Ana, Calif. wide receiver Gavin Honore has officially committed to Oregon State, marking a significant late-season addition for the Beavers.
Honore, Mater Dei’s top receiver this season, arrives after a year of eligibility challenges that led him to return to his California high school following a decommitment from Georgia. Through seven games, he has already delivered with 23 catches for 327 yards and two touchdowns, thriving despite Mater Dei’s inconsistent passing attack.
Oregon State’s high-powered offense and quarterback-friendly scheme were key factors in his decision, praising head coach James Finley and offensive coordinator Jamarcus Shephard for their player development and innovative play-calling. Honore, who will graduate early and join the team for spring ball, called the fit ‘perfect’ and expressed excitement about contributing in a system designed to maximize receiver production.
The commitment adds another piece to Oregon State’s rebuilding effort, with Shephard’s offense generating national attention. Honore’s arrival also caps an unusual recruitment journey, having initially pledged to Georgia as a sophomore before shifting focus to Nevada’s Bishop Gorman—only to face eligibility hurdles that redirected his path back to California.
His decision to join the Beavers comes as the program looks to build on its current offensive momentum, with Honore set to play a key role in a passing attack that thrives on creating big-play opportunities.
