The Seattle Seahawks have struggled with a persistent issue under head coach Mike Macdonald: turnovers. Since Macdonald took over in 2024, the team has surrendered the ball at least twice in 20 separate games—a frequency that rivals only the Cleveland Browns in the NFL.
This problem has been particularly pronounced in close games, where Seattle’s inability to protect the football has cost them victories. In their three losses since last November, the Seahawks lost the turnover battle by a combined margin of 11-4, with quarterback Sam Darnold accounting for eight of those giveaways through interceptions alone.
While Darnold’s ball security has drawn criticism, the broader trend reveals systemic weaknesses in the team’s ability to prevent turnovers across the board. The only stretch without consecutive games featuring multiple giveaways came between Week 18 of the 2025 season and Week 1 of this year—a five-game run that stands out as an anomaly rather than the new standard under Macdonald.
