Oklahoma football news: Brent Venables considering benching John Mateer

Following a tough road defeat to the Georgia Bulldogs, the Oklahoma Sooners dropped to a two and two record on the season. Quarterback John Mateer struggled significantly during the contest, continuing a stretch of poor performances that included a costly fumble returned for a touchdown and a difficult interception.

Head coach Brent Venables revealed that the coaching staff discussed replacing Mateer mid-game and noted that all personnel decisions will be evaluated during the upcoming bye week. The team must now prepare for a rivalry matchup against Texas.
