No Matter Which QB Gets Start For Tennessee, Roberts, Razorbacks Ready For Heupel's 'System'

October 6, 2026

Tennessee’s offense enters its showdown with Arkansas on Saturday with a quarterback conundrum, as head coach Josh Heupel has yet to decide between Faizon Brandon and Georgia MacIntyre for the starting role. The Volunteers, currently ranked 15th and riding a 4-1 record, nearly stunned No.

1 Texas earlier this month, and their offensive flexibility could be key against Arkansas’s stout defense. Brandon, who has thrown for seven touchdowns and just one interception this season, missed part of Tennessee’s 24-14 win over Auburn due to injury, allowing MacIntyre to step in and lead a late-game comeback.

Though Brandon’s completion percentage sits at 60.4% (61 of 101), his dual-threat ability—including 130 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground—gives him an edge in Heupel’s eyes, though MacIntyre’s strong debut against Auburn could sway the decision. Arkansas defensive coordinator Ron Roberts has studied both quarterbacks closely, noting Brandon’s athleticism and playmaking ability as a potential differentiator, even as he praised MacIntyre’s accuracy and poise.

The Razorbacks will focus on exploiting Tennessee’s system-driven offense, which relies on structured plays rather than improvisation, though Brandon’s mobility adds a wrinkle. The game kicks off at 3:15 p.m.

ET on Saturday in Fayetteville, with coverage on the SEC Network and Razorback Sports Network.
