Nebraska’s 20-17 loss to Indiana in the fourth quarter was a painful blow after the Cornhuskers built a commanding lead. The Huskers dominated the first half, controlling 22-plus minutes of game time and stifling Indiana’s offense to earn a 17-6 halftime advantage.
However, a missed 40-yard field goal attempt by Kyle Cunanan before the break erased any momentum, setting the stage for Indiana’s late comeback. Nebraska’s offense struggled throughout, falling well short of benchmarks in scoring (17 points vs.
a target of 32), yards per play (4.9 vs. 6.1), and explosive plays, with only one such play—a 13-yard run by Jamal Rule.
The defense also faced criticism, allowing four sacks (against a target of 1.6) and failing to convert third downs at a 44% rate, though they managed to hold Indiana to minimal possession time in the first half. Indiana’s explosive plays, including a 75-yard catch-and-run by Josh Hoover and a 44-yard touchdown on fourth-and-1, exposed Nebraska’s offensive vulnerabilities, particularly in the red zone, where the Huskers converted just one of three attempts into touchdowns.
