The Mets organization mourns the loss of longtime adviser Guy Conti, who passed away at 84. Conti was a baseball veteran with deep ties to the franchise, serving as the team’s bullpen coach from 2005 to 2008 before shifting to a minor-league advisory role.
His influence extended beyond Queens, including mentorship of Pedro Martínez and a close friendship with Sandy Koufax during his earlier tenure with the Dodgers. Meanwhile, the Mets’ front office continues to explore pitching options, with Zac Thornton publicly advocating for the addition of Tarik Skubal, citing his left-handed expertise and potential to bolster the rotation alongside Sean Manaea.
The team’s recent trade of Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor to the Cubs for prospect Jefferson Rojas has proven prescient, as Rojas has thrived in his first season with the Mets.
Across the NL East, the Phillies are set to name Don Mattingly as their full-time manager, solidifying his return to the dugout after years as a coach. The Nationals’ farm system remains in strong shape under first-year president of baseball operations Paul Toboni, with top prospect Jarlin Susana drawing attention for his dominant performance in the Arizona Fall League.
In the postseason, Tampa Bay’s Freddy Peralta delivered a standout performance in Game 3 of the ALCS, leading the Rays to a 3-1 victory over Cleveland and evening the series at one game apiece.
