The Mets kicked off free agency by signing infielder Christian Cairo to a one‑year split deal and adding right‑handers Jack Anderson and Pierson Ohl off waivers from the Twins and Rockies. They also inked infielder Kyren Paris to a major‑league contract, but both Paris and Cairo were designated for assignment shortly after.
Cairo, a 25‑year‑old who spent 2024 in Triple‑A after being released by the Phillies’ affiliate, posted a .233/.361/.314 line with eight homers and 41 doubles over three minor‑league seasons. Anderson, 27, made his MLB debut in 2026 with the Red Sox and Twins, logging 12.1 innings, 12 strikeouts and three walks.
Ohl, also 27, missed the 2026 campaign after Tommy John surgery but had appeared in three starts and 11 relief outings for Minnesota in 2025. The club also lost RHP Philip Abner and LHP Cameron Weston to waivers, saw Eric Wagaman elect free agency, and had Cristian Pache accept a Triple‑A assignment while reinstating Tylor Megill, Reed Garrett and Jorge Polanco from the 60‑day IL.
