Lions bring back veteran safety to practice squad

The Detroit Lions are turning to the free agent market to bolster their defensive backfield following a major injury setback. Avonte Maddox will undergo surgery on his foot and miss the rest of the campaign, compounding earlier defensive losses like Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph, and Cade Mays.

In response to these absences and a rough defensive showing in a Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills, head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes brought in experienced defensive backs for workouts. Consequently, the team decided to add veteran defensive back Jalen Mills to the practice squad ahead of an upcoming matchup against the New York Jets.
