Leicestershire on brink of relegation after points deduction

Leicestershire's tenure in County Championship Division One is nearly over after an independent Cricket Discipline Panel docked the club 27 points due to pitch infractions during an August triumph over Glamorgan. Alongside losing the 19 points earned from that 42-run win, the bottom-placed side received an additional eight-point deduction, an extra suspended eight-point sanction lasting twelve months, and a £5,000 fine.

The Foxes, who hold a ten-working-day window to submit an appeal, stated that they are assessing the verdict and evaluating their options.

Survival now hinges on defeating Hampshire, who held an imposing 225-run advantage at 255-3 in their second innings at the close of day two at Uptonsteel Grace Road. The surface in the Glamorgan fixture prompted referee Ian Ramage to request an assessment by ECB pitch advisor Andy Mackay, with visiting coach Richard Dawson noting difficult conditions for batting and home coach Alfonso Thomas defending their preparation despite admitting excessive dryness.
