Lancashire County Cricket Club said it will explore ways to give James Anderson a proper send‑off after the 44‑year‑old bowler was released, a move that sparked anger among members at a meeting held at Old Trafford on Monday. The gathering, attended by about 200 members, featured new chief executive Richard Kenyon and incoming director of cricket Paul Farbrace, who joined via video from the United States and defended the decision as part of a four‑year plan to build a championship‑winning side.
Anderson, who captained Lancashire in the County Championship last season and took 50 wickets to earn the club’s player‑of‑the‑year award, finished the campaign with the side second‑bottom of Division Two. He leaves with 443 first‑class wickets for Lancashire, 83 List A scalps and 50 T20 wickets, adding to his record 911 England wickets, and several counties have shown interest in signing him for 2025.
