Kyle Anderson, the 33-year veteran forward now with the Toronto Raptors, is embracing a supportive role rather than imposing his experience on younger teammates. Speaking after a recent practice, Anderson emphasized his preference for mentoring without dictating how others should approach their careers or musical tastes, joking that suggesting Lil Wayne or Jay-Z would likely earn him confused looks.
The former Minnesota Timberwolf, who joined Toronto this offseason, praised the team’s close-knit culture, noting that the Raptors spend more time together in the summer than most NBA squads—a dynamic that helped him bond with players like Jamal Shead, whom he admired for his defensive impact and unselfish play even without scoring heavily.
Anderson also hinted at a potential expanded role under coach Darko Rajaković, who has indicated he may deploy the versatile forward at the center position at times. With the Raptors facing depth challenges there, Anderson’s blend of defensive skills and veteran leadership could see him stepping into a small-ball five role, particularly if Jakob Poeltl and Collin Murray-Boyles are unavailable.
His arrival adds another layer of experience to a roster that values teamwork, both on and off the court.
