Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis will miss the start of the team's training camp in Hawaii due to an unspecified medical setback. General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.
announced the absence on Monday, describing the 7-foot-4 big man's current status as indefinite while noting that team leadership remains hopeful for a swift return. Head coach Steve Kerr learned of the development late Sunday evening, admitting that the situation caught leadership completely off guard.
Porzingis previously appeared in just fifteen contests for Golden State following a trade from the Atlanta Hawks, maintaining averages of 16.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. The franchise is also managing the rehabilitation processes for Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody, both of whom are recovering from major tendon surgeries.
While those two athletes will travel with the squad for camp sessions, neither is expected to be cleared for action when the regular schedule commences.
