Manon Bakker (Alpe d'HuZes) dominated the elite women’s C1 race at Kings CX in Mason, Ohio, securing her fourth victory of the fall US series and extending her unbeaten streak in recent races. The Dutch cyclist pulled away from a six-rider group on the third lap, ultimately winning by seven seconds over Sidney McGill, who finished second.
Ada Watson and Alyssa Sarkisov, both of CXD Trek Bikes, took third and fourth, respectively, while Lauren Zoerner rounded out the top five. Bakker’s triumph came with a poignant tribute to Tofik Beshir, the 2023 men’s USCX champion, whose name she displayed on a bracelet after crossing the line.
Beshir remains hospitalized following a collision with a motorized vehicle earlier this year, though he had competed at Kings CX in 2022. Meanwhile, Andrew Strohmeyer claimed the men’s C1 title in a late surge, overcoming a mechanical issue to outpace a strong CXD Trek Bikes trio of Miles Mattern, Dylan Haynes, and Ryan Drummond in the final laps.
The race concluded under challenging conditions, with heavy rain preceding the event leaving the course slick before drying under sunny conditions by race time.
