New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo faced a rare game without a single carry or target in Sunday’s 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints, marking the first time in his career he suited up without touching the ball. The decision came just one week after Skattebo’s costly fumble in overtime of a 27-27 tie against the Washington Commanders, which he acknowledged as a mistake.
While Skattebo suggested he understood the limited role as a form of discipline—expecting reduced snaps but not a full benching—head coach John Harbaugh dismissed any notion of punishment, framing it instead as a four-man backfield rotation. Skattebo logged just six snaps, trailing Tyrone Tracy Jr.
(six carries) and Najee Harris (four for two yards) in a Giants rushing attack that managed only 84 yards on the ground. Harbaugh emphasized the need for one of the backs to emerge as the clear starter, calling the current distribution unsatisfactory.
The Giants now turn their attention to next Sunday’s matchup against the Houston Texans, where Skattebo could have an opportunity to reclaim his role.
