During the second match of the series, West Indies opening batter John Campbell rewrote the record books against India by posting the quickest fifty by a Caribbean player in the 50-over format. Reaching the milestone from just 29 deliveries, he eclipsed the previous benchmark of 30 balls that had been jointly held by Chris Gayle across matches in Ahmedabad back in 2002 and Port of Spain in 2019.
This record-breaking performance at Guwahati establishes Campbell as the standalone holder of the feat, surpassing the legendary opening partner's previous best by a single delivery. Prior to this explosive knock, Campbell had already displayed solid touch during the opening fixture at Thiruvananthapuram, where his patient 62-run effort featured a more measured fifty from 49 balls alongside a century partnership with Greaves.
