Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has quietly built a case for a starting role after two seasons of steady contributions.
Drafted in the fifth round in 2024 as a late pick, Trotter has become a key defensive presence, recording a career-high 15 tackles (10 solo) in the Eagles’ loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the team’s defensive leader for the game. With 19 tackles on the season—tied for sixth on the team—he has outperformed expectations, especially in the absence of injured starter Zack Baun.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio acknowledged Trotter’s strong performance, hinting at expanded playing time, though the Eagles’ recent first-round selection, Jihaad Campbell, adds complexity to the lineup debate. Campbell, a 2025 draft pick, has shown flashes as an edge rusher but struggled in coverage, including a costly missed tackle against Washington’s Antonio Williams in the season opener.
Meanwhile, Trotter’s contract expires in 2028, leaving the Eagles with a decision on whether to extend him after next season.
