Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels took full responsibility Thursday for a costly clock-management blunder that led to an overtime tie against the New York Giants in Week 5. The Commanders took the field in overtime with 1:55 left and no timeouts, eventually driving into field-goal range after a 16-yard gain by Terry McLaurin, a 16-yard scramble by Daniels, and a 13-yard reception by Treylon Burks.
On the final play, with eight seconds remaining, Daniels’ dive at the Giants’ 24-yard line left his offense unable to spike the ball before time expired, resulting in a 27-27 deadlock. While head coach Dan Quinn has faced criticism, Daniels insisted the failure ultimately rested with him, calling it a personal shortcoming in leadership and execution.
"I’m the person on the field supposed to control everything, and I failed to the standard I hold myself to," he said, emphasizing that the mistake would not be repeated.
