The New York Giants continued their cautious approach to integrating J.J. McCarthy into their quarterback rotation, deploying him for a second time in Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints.
McCarthy entered the game in the fourth quarter, replacing Jameis Winston for a handful of plays after the Giants benched their starter. His first pass attempt with the team was completed, but he quickly followed it up with an interception, marking his second turnover of the season.
Earlier in the game, McCarthy had played just one snap in the first half, a read-option play that resulted in a two-yard loss. Over six total snaps, McCarthy finished with one completion out of four attempts, 19 passing yards, and a rushing attempt that gained negative two yards.
The Giants had acquired McCarthy in a trade last month, and his limited playing time reflects their ongoing evaluation of his potential role in the offense.
