Ilya Sorokin reached a major career milestone over the weekend by securing his 30th NHL shutout during a dominant six-goal victory against the New Jersey Devils. The New York Islanders netminder stopped all 37 attempts on target, earning his milestone blanking and standing alone as the first player from his draft class to hit that total.
Drafted in 2014 alongside several other notable goaltenders, Sorokin leads his peers in career shutouts ahead of Igor Shesterkin, Elvis Merzlikins, Vitek Vanecek, and Thatcher Demko. Sorokin previously claimed a league-high six shutouts during the 2022-23 campaign and added seven more last season, which helped him surpass franchise history by overtaking Chico Resch on the team leader board.
