Former England player Gareth Batty is stepping down from his long-term post at Surrey to assume responsibilities as an assistant coach for Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League campaign. During his tenure leading the English county squad from 2022 onward, he captured three successive County Championship titles and finished as runner-up in 2025.
Batty accumulated over 700 professional appearances, securing more than 1,000 wickets and 10,000 runs throughout a 24-year playing journey. Internationally, the off-spinner represented England across twenty matches in all three formats between 2002 and 2016, notably featuring in a Test tour late in his career at the age of thirty-nine.
