The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a change in venue for the opening match of the upcoming ODI series between India and Sri Lanka. Originally scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on December 13, the first ODI has been moved to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad due to ongoing construction work at the Delhi venue.
This adjustment comes as India prepares to host Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI series followed by three T20Is in December, following their tour of New Zealand in October-November. The decision reflects the BCCI’s efforts to ensure smooth logistics amid a busy cricket calendar, with the West Indies series currently underway in India.
The venue shift also highlights the BCCI’s proactive approach to managing infrastructure challenges ahead of major tournaments, including preparations for the 2027 IPL season, which are already underway with key stakeholders convening for discussions in Mumbai.
