West Indies captain Shai Hope has produced a remarkable run of form during the current series against India, amassing 432 runs across five matches comprising three ODIs and two T20Is. His recent output includes three centuries and one half-century, with his most notable knocks being an unbeaten 162 in an ODI at New Chandigarh and an unbeaten 102 in a T20I at Ranchi.
In both instances, Hope struck the final runs to secure record-breaking successful run-chases of 352 and 250 for his side, respectively.
Teammate Roston Chase highlighted Hope's professional discipline and recent physical preparation, noting that the captain has focused on gym work and range hitting to improve his power. Chase also defended Hope against common criticisms regarding his strike rate, pointing to his current figures of 112.10 in ODIs and 187.80 in T20Is.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir acknowledged the opposition player's quality, describing Hope as a world-class cricketer following a six-wicket defeat for the Indian team.
