In 1988, Nezam Hafiz captained Guyana U19 against Brian Lara, later represented USA; 13 years later, the cricketer lost his life in the 9/11 attacks

Nezam Hafiz led the Guyana Under-19 cricket side in 1988, notably competing in a matchup featuring Brian Lara. Hafiz subsequently continued his playing career internationally by taking the field for the United States.

Tragically, thirteen years following that 1988 fixture, the cricketer was among those killed during the terrorist attacks on September 11.
