Imran Tahir creates history, becomes oldest player to achieve massive T20 record

Veteran South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir wrote his name into the record books as he steered the Guyana Amazon Warriors to a four-wicket triumph over the Saint Lucia Kings at Providence Stadium. At 47 years and 166 days old, the franchise skipper claimed a stunning five-wicket haul, breaking the previous global benchmark held by the Cook Islands' Tomakanute Ritawa, who took five wickets at age 46 years and 299 days in 2022.

Tahir's sixth career T20 five-for also lifted him past Shakib Al Hasan, Shaheen Afridi, Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Rashid Khan into outright second place on the all-time list, trailing only David Wiese's seven hauls. Backed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz's three-wicket effort, Tahir dismantled Saint Lucia for 119 in an innings where only Kamil Pooran and Obus Pienaar registered double figures.

Guyana successfully chased the target with nine deliveries to spare despite a three-wicket burst from Roston Chase. Glenn Phillips laid the platform with 37 runs before Quentin Sampson powered the pursuit over the line via a blistering 11-ball 37.
