The International Cricket Council (ICC) has raised concerns over the upcoming World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2026, warning that the tournament could tarnish the sport’s reputation. Scheduled from October 3 to October 18 in the UAE, the event will feature six teams competing in a T20 format, culminating in semi-finals on October 16 and a Grand Final on October 18.
Matches will be held exclusively in Sharjah and Dubai, with the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit chief, Andrew Ephgrave, highlighting the lack of official sanctioning or an ICC no-objection certificate (NoC) for the tournament. Ephgrave also noted past controversies, including corruption allegations tied to a 2024 edition in Sri Lanka, while emphasizing the need to distinguish between official cricket structures and retired players showcasing their skills in exhibition-style events.
