The Green Bay Packers' defensive unit has surged up the NFL rankings, moving from 26th to 14th in EPA per play following a Week 5 performance that included five forced turnovers. This improvement comes after a heavy Week 3 defeat to the Atlanta Falcons, during which the squad sat near the bottom of the league in defensive efficiency.
Although their run defense metrics remain below the league average, the team is currently relying on the strength of its pass coverage to sustain this upward trajectory.
In the Week 5 matchup, the Packers' secondary forced three interceptions from Chicago Bears quarterbacks Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum. Safety Xavier McKinney recorded two of those picks, including one after a tipped pass by Javon Bullard and another on a late throw intended for Colston Loveland.
The defensive scheme, which utilized cover-8 and cover-3 rotations, effectively limited the space available to the opposing receivers, allowing the coverage unit to maintain sound assignments throughout the game.
