Glamorgan batter Root to join Ingram in retirement

Billy Root will conclude his top-flight cricket career with Glamorgan upon the completion of the 2026 campaign, mirroring the retirement timeline of his long-serving colleague Colin Ingram. The 34-year-old batter transitioned to the Welsh organization from Nottinghamshire back in 2019, accumulating nearly 5,000 runs across 67 matches alongside seven centuries, which featured a notable double hundred at Northampton.

Beyond his accumulation of runs, Root played a pivotal role in securing the 2024 One-Day Cup championship, marking the county's second triumph in a three-year span. Director of cricket Mark Wallace praised the veteran's professionalism, steady reliability, and capacity to deliver during crucial matches, while noting that Root has participated in a pair of County Championship Division One fixtures throughout the 2026 schedule.
