Giro del Veneto: Alessandro Covi pulls off first win of 2026 with well-timed sprint

Alessandro Covi delivered a late-season breakthrough in the Giro del Veneto, securing his first victory of 2026 with a tactical sprint up Vicenza’s Monte Berico. The Italian rider launched his decisive move just 300 meters from the line, outmuscling Danish rival Anthon Charmig in a tight bunch finish.

Covi’s win marked the first for Jayco-AlUla since Mauro Schmid’s Tour de France stage triumph earlier this year, ending a prolonged dry spell for the squad. UAE Team Emirates-XRG had controlled the race’s final 50 kilometers with Pavel Sivakov and World Champion Brandon McNulty leading the peloton, but their designated contender, Benoît Cosnefroy, finished third after failing to replicate teammate Isaac del Toro’s 2025 success in the same event.
