The New York Giants are already praising J.J. McCarthy’s rapid assimilation into the team’s offensive system after just two weeks since his trade from the Minnesota Vikings.
Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy graded McCarthy’s progress as an ‘A-plus,’ highlighting his accelerated learning curve under the guidance of Giants position coaches. While McCarthy hasn’t yet taken the field, Nagy noted his ability to absorb complex playbooks quickly, though both he and backup Jake Haener must eventually master the full game plan.
The Giants also made key roster adjustments, with running back Najee Harris returning to practice after a day off for personal reasons, while Charlie Jones took over as the new kickoff and punt returner following Braxton Berrios’s season-ending foot injury. Special teams coordinator Chris Horton praised Jones’s confidence, speed, and ball-handling skills, calling him a standout addition in that role.
Meanwhile, the Giants’ defense showed improved aggression in Week 4, with defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson noting a significant increase in blitzing and successful pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Injuries continue to impact the team, with defensive tackle Chauncey Golston and safety Jason Pinnock still sidelined, while tight ends Isaiah Likely and Chris Manhertz remain limited due to shoulder issues.
