Gambhir reveals sleepless night over Samson call as Sooryavanshi forced dilemma: ‘Toughest decision of my tenure’

India men's national cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir recently admitted that dropping Sanju Samson for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the hardest selection choice during his two-year tenure, keeping him awake all night before a crucial series. Gambhir explained in a media interview that despite Samson previously winning player of the tournament honours, the team required immediate opening firepower due to Sooryavanshi's explosive streak.

The coach noted he had a transparent discussion with Samson regarding the decision, adding that established players with prolonged success must also eventually be balanced against emerging talent.
