Gael Monfils appointed captain of France's Davis Cup team following retirement

The French Tennis Federation has officially selected Gael Monfils to lead the national squad for the Davis Cup. This appointment arrives just one month after the veteran concluded his professional playing career, which spanned 22 years and included two appearances in Grand Slam semifinals.

Monfils, who reached a career-high ranking of sixth in the world, played his final professional match during the second round of the United States Open this past September.
