From junior prodigies to Asian Games gold medallists: Meet Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet, India’s golden duo in Japan

India claimed its second gold medal at the Asian Games as Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet dominated the 10m air pistol mixed-team shooting event. The victorious duo accumulated a total score of 484.6 points to finish comfortably ahead of the silver-winning South Korean pair Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo, who managed 478.0 points.

Suruchi, born in Jhajjar, Haryana, entered the sport after a wrestling background and built momentum through multiple 2025 ISSF World Cup victories and a junior world record in Doha. Kamaljeet, hailing from Sulkha in Rewari, shifted from track and field to shooting in 2019, eventually breaking through with junior world championship success in Changwon after overcoming initial financial obstacles.
