Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has signaled her commitment to the franchise’s championship ambitions, even if it means forgoing part of her potential maximum salary under the WNBA’s new EPIC clause. With her rookie-scale contract set to expire after 2026—following a salary of under $530,000—Clark is poised to negotiate a long-term extension that could anchor her at the highest possible pay rate in the league.
The provision, designed for elite performers on rookie deals, has already been used by fellow All-WNBA guard Aliyah Boston, who signed a four-year, $6.3 million extension with the Atlanta Dream. Clark, however, has made it clear her priority lies in building a roster capable of contending for a title, not just maximizing her own earnings.
During her exit interview, she emphasized flexibility, stating she would consider taking less than the full maximum if it allowed the Fever to retain key talent like Kelsey Mitchell, whose re-signing she has expressed interest in. The decision could shape Indiana’s 2027 push for a Finals appearance, as every dollar saved could be reinvested in free-agent additions or veteran leadership.
