Two high-profile fantasy football running backs, Chase Brown of the Cincinnati Bengals and Cam Skattebo of the New York Giants, have struggled to deliver consistent production despite leading their respective backfields in touches through Week 5. Brown, who entered the season as a projected RB2, has failed to reach double-digit fantasy points in three of his first five games, with his highest output just 16.3 points in a single contest.
In Week 5, he was outscored and outtouched by backup Samaje Perine, managing only 5.5 fantasy points on 13 carries and 78 rushing yards while Perine posted 14.8 points on 14 carries and 60 yards. The Bengals' run game has been stifled, and Brown’s ceiling remains severely limited, pushing him closer to RB3 or flex territory unless he shows improvement soon.
Meanwhile, Skattebo has also underperformed, failing to exceed double-digit fantasy points in any game beyond Week 1, where he hit 14.1 points. Despite 13 carries and 71 rushing yards in Week 5, he managed just 6.1 points, falling short of expectations in a game that ended in a 27-27 tie against the Washington Commanders.
Skattebo’s explosiveness hasn’t translated into consistent scoring, and the Giants’ offense has rarely ventured into the red zone, further capping his upside.
