The fifth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the fourteenth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes 31-14 at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, dropping the Hawkeyes' record to 4-1. During the contest, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith broke Chris Olave's previous all-time Ohio State record by catching his thirty-sixth career touchdown pass.
Despite the final score, both competing squads paused at the conclusion of the first quarter to participate in the traditional Hawkeye Wave by turning toward the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital alongside coaches, referees, and thousands of attendees. Former Iowa basketball player Caitlin Clark also joined young patients inside the medical facility to wave back down toward the gridiron, while Ohio State coach Ryan Day sent a pre-match letter to every hospitalized youngster.
