The Los Angeles Chargers return to action Sunday with a critical opportunity to end their five-game losing streak, but their path to a first win of the season will be daunting against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. Wide receivers Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston, both sidelined by injuries, are back after missing the Week 5 loss to Denver, offering a much-needed boost to an offense that ranks third-worst in the NFL at 16.8 points per game.
Despite the additions, the Chargers face further setbacks with Tre’ Harris (hamstring) and KeAndre Lambert-Smith (hamstring) questionable, along with rookie Brenen Thompson (quad), whose speed is a key asset to offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s play-calling. Quarterback Justin Herbert remains resilient amid the personnel shortages, though the offensive line remains a major concern, with right tackle Joe Alt and left guard Kayode Awosika still out and rookie center Jake Slaughter anchoring a unit already missing left tackle Rashawn Slater and former center Tyler Biadasz for the season.
With the Chiefs allowing just 19.3 points per game, the Chargers’ offensive line will need to show significant improvement to keep Herbert in the game long enough for a realistic shot at victory.
