England hopeful backs up maiden Division One hundred with a statement second ton

Glamorgan batter Asa Tribe continued his strong run of form by posting his second consecutive hundred in Division One, finishing the opening day against Essex unbeaten at 135 runs. The young hopeful occupied the crease for a marathon 361 minutes, hitting 14 boundaries off 265 deliveries to help lift his side to a total of 318 for 3 at stumps.

Tribe previously notched his maiden ton in the division with a 155 against Surrey, bringing his overall seasonal tally to 891 runs across 26 innings.

During the day's play, the 22-year-old contributed to several vital partnerships, including a 76-run opening stand alongside Zain-ul-Hassan and a massive 178-run alliance with skipper Kiran Carlson. Carlson went on to record his 17th first-class century before Tribe teamed up with Colin Ingram, who is currently competing in the final appearance of his professional career.

Tribe now holds six first-class centuries overall and has surpassed 2,000 runs in red-ball cricket.
