Enes Kanter Freedom Accuses Cathy Engelbert of 'Disrespect' as WNBA Gender Eligibility Debate Intensifies

Enes Kanter Freedom has publicly criticized WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert following the league's formal notification to Congress that he is ineligible for the 2027 draft. The league clarified that its roster requirements are restricted to female athletes, explicitly naming Freedom and Royce White as ineligible candidates.

Freedom characterized the commissioner's stance as insulting, arguing that the league's refusal to acknowledge his self-identified gender identity contradicts the organization's ongoing internal discussions regarding eligibility standards.
