Emilio Gay scores century on County Championship return to boost hopes of retaining England Test opener spot

Durham batter Emilio Gay strengthened his bid to retain his place at the top of the order for his national side by compiling a century against Lancashire during the opening day of their final fixture of the campaign. Arriving at the crease early in proceedings following the dismissal of Alex Lees, Gay shared a century-plus stand with Ben McKinney before continuing his knock alongside Mayank Agarwal.

Gay eventually fell for a score of 141 after facing 156 deliveries, helping his squad surpass the three-hundred-run mark by stumps. The milestone represents the player's first three-figure score since earning his initial selection for the Test team prior to the summer series.
