Australian cricket captain Ellyse Perry has expressed disappointment that the women’s national team will not play any international matches during the upcoming Australian summer. The team’s last fixtures are scheduled for October, with a six-match series against New Zealand concluding on October 22, followed by a lengthy break until their next game in March.
Perry highlighted the scheduling challenges, noting that the peak summer months—when fan engagement is typically highest—will see no home matches for the women’s team, despite their status as the world’s top-ranked side in both ODIs and T20Is.
Meanwhile, the men’s team will have a packed summer schedule, featuring 12 international games, including three ODIs and five T20Is against England starting November 13, followed by a four-Test series against New Zealand from December 9 to January 8. Perry also pointed out that the concurrent women’s BBL and WPL tournaments have further complicated scheduling, leaving limited opportunities for the women’s team to play in front of home crowds.
She emphasized the need to create more opportunities for the team to compete domestically in the future.
