Shaun Edwards has secured a position as defence coach for Argentina, with a contract extending through the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. The 59-year-old former Wigan rugby league star will begin working with the Pumas at the end of October, following the completion of his consultancy duties with the England women's team.
This appointment concludes speculation about a potential role within Steve Borthwick's England setup, as Edwards transitions from his recent tenure as France's men's defence coach, where he contributed to three Six Nations victories.
Edwards will collaborate with Felipe Contepomi and Mario Ledesma, the latter of whom has been named as the forwards coach. The Argentine squad is scheduled to face Ireland, Italy, and France in November Nations Championship fixtures before their World Cup campaign.
Argentina, who have reached the semi-finals on three occasions, are placed in a pool alongside Fiji, Spain, and Canada for the tournament running from October 1 to November 13, 2027.
