The Philadelphia Eagles entered their Week 5 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London with a significant injury setback, as seven players did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. Star running back Saquon Barkley, sidelined since Week 4 with a hamstring issue, remains week-to-week and is expected to miss Sunday’s game.
His absence, combined with Tank Bigsby’s recent placement on injured reserve, leaves the Eagles with just two running backs on the active roster: Will Shipley and newly promoted practice-squad player Dameon Pierce. Meanwhile, wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who was seen stretching on the sideline, is likely out for this game but could return as soon as Week 6, according to reports.
Other key absences include offensive linemen Drew Kendall and Jonathan Greenard, both dealing with knee and ankle injuries, respectively. Kendall’s injury could force the Eagles to shuffle their starting center lineup for the fifth game in a row, while Greenard’s day-to-day status suggests a potential return in Week 6.
Linebacker Jihaad Campbell, another key player, may also miss the game, with Jeremiah Trotter Jr. poised to step in.
The Eagles’ depth at receiver and safety will also be tested, as Hollywood Brown and Marcus Epps could both sit out, further thinning the roster.
