Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese captured the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year honor on Thursday by securing forty-six ballots out of seventy-two media members. Gabby Williams of Golden State placed second with twenty tallies, while A’ja Wilson of Las Vegas took third place following her previous victories in 2022 and 2023 along with a shared accolade alongside Minnesota player Alanna Smith last season.
Reese, who earned her third All-Star nod, spearheaded her squad to the league playoff semifinals for the initial time since 2018 during her debut campaign with the franchise.
During her third professional campaign, the twenty-four-year-old athlete paced the competition by collecting 12.1 rebounds per contest and placed third with 1.8 steals per game, boosting Atlanta to the third-strongest defensive rating across the league. She established new single-season standards with 521 total rebounds and 206 offensive boards, alongside a single-game league high of 26 rebounds.
Following her first two seasons with Chicago prior to an April trade involving future draft assets, Reese excelled in her new environment to claim top defensive status.
