Daniil Medvedev reacts after Gael Monfils appears to retire from tennis, ‘it’s a bit of a strange story’

Daniil Medvedev expressed surprise after learning that Gael Monfils appeared on the International Tennis Integrity Agency's list of retired athletes. Medvedev, who recently defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-5 at the Shanghai Masters, praised the Frenchman as a formidable and entertaining opponent.

While Monfils previously planned to conclude his career after the 2026 season, his final appearance was a three-set loss to Learner Tien at the US Open. Medvedev currently holds a 3-2 head-to-head record against Monfils and remains focused on securing a qualification spot for the ATP Finals in Turin.
