Oregon football coach Dan Lanning recently addressed his post-game remarks regarding USC, acknowledging that his commentary carried a degree of pettiness while maintaining that the rival program initiated the back-and-forth during the offseason. The controversy followed a conference matchup where Oregon defeated their opponents 41-27, a contest marred by a dangerous helmet-to-helmet hit that sent quarterback Dante Moore to the hospital.
The offending linebacker, Desman Stephens, received an ejection during the game and was subsequently handed a one-game suspension by the university on Monday.
During his post-game press conference, Lanning had criticized USC for crowd attendance numbers and referenced a local concert performance by artist Chris Brown. Appearing on a media program hosted by Dave Portnoy, the Oregon leader defended his focus on competitive success and his unblemished 3-0 record against the program.
He also noted that opposing personnel had previously directed verbal jabs at his team, prompting his own pointed remarks once the final whistle sounded at the stadium.
