Dallas Cowboys cornerback Joey Porter Jr. missed his first game with the team after battling severe illness on the morning of the Cowboys' Week 5 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Porter Jr., acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for future draft picks, had been slated to start 48.1% of defensive snaps in the team’s previous game before his condition worsened. He described vomiting repeatedly during his drive to AT&T Stadium, forcing him to sit out the Cowboys’ 24-16 loss—a game he had prepared to play and win.
The setback left him frustrated, especially after Dallas’ defense allowed 241 rushing yards in the loss, compounded by exhaustion from back-to-back games and a recent international trip to Brazil.
Porter Jr. has since recovered, with the extra rest before the Cowboys’ Week 6 clash with the Green Bay Packers helping him regain his footing.
Now fully healthy, he’ll aim to contribute significantly in the high-stakes Sunday Night Football showdown, where Dallas seeks to rebound from their recent struggles. The 17 days since joining the Cowboys have given him time to adjust, and his energy appears to be returning ahead of a critical matchup against a Packers defense ranked among the NFL’s best.
