William Contreras claimed the Willie Mays World Series MVP trophy following an impressive postseason performance that highlighted his skills both at the plate and behind it. The twenty-eight-year-old catcher collected eight hits across twenty-four at-bats during the championship series, drove in four runs, and contributed a crucial double in the sixth inning of Game 5.
Defensively, he shut down the opponent running game by erasing four out of nine base-stealing attempts and guided the Milwaukee pitching staff to a minuscule ERA and a low batting average against. Manager Pat Murphy and teammate Brandon Woodruff both praised his remarkable instincts and leadership on the field.
Contreras also excelled using the ABS Challenge System, achieving a seventy-seven percent overturn rate during the series. Prior to his arrival in Milwaukee via a three-team trade on December 12, 2022, he previously played for the Atlanta organization.
