Cliff takes 8-76 before Yorkshire frustrate Somerset

Ben Cliff claimed sensational figures of 8-76, the finest first-class bowling haul for Yorkshire since Craig White's 8-55 in 1998, as Somerset were dismissed for 201 after crumbling to 86-8. Somerset had slid to 74-7 when Cliff removed James Rew and Lewis Gregory with successive deliveries before having Jack Leach caught behind.

A fightback ensued via a county-record ninth-wicket stand of 90 against Yorkshire between Craig Overton, who stroked 64, and Migael Pretorius, who hit 10 boundaries in his 58, until Cliff removed both batters.

Overton then spearheaded Somerset's attack by dismissing Will Luxton and Adam Lyth to leave Yorkshire reeling early in their second innings. Jake Ball quickly bowled James Wharton to make it 21-3, before removing Matthew Revis for 40 after a shower prompted an early tea break, followed by Gregory capturing the wicket of Jonny Bairstow.

George Hill held firm with an unbeaten 50 to steer Yorkshire to 128-6 by the close, establishing an overall advantage of 139 runs in the Division One encounter.
