Chris Olave looks ready to take another step after monster season opener

New Orleans Saints wideout Chris Olave delivered an explosive performance to begin the 2026 campaign, racking up a personal-best 182 receiving yards on 10 receptions despite repeatedly exiting the contest to receive medical attention. Quarterback Tyler Shough also established a new personal high in passing yardage as New Orleans mounted an intense rally following a sluggish start.

However, the effort narrowly missed the mark on the road at Ford Field, where the Saints dropped an overtime thriller to the Detroit Lions by a 31-30 margin to move to 0-1.

Playing without edge rusher Cam Jordan, New Orleans managed to bring down Detroit passer Jared Goff only once while Shough absorbed multiple sacks. The Lions' leaky pass defense drew criticism following Olave's massive outing, prompting Detroit head coach Dan Campbell to directly speak on the issues plighting his defensive backs.

The Saints will look to rebound from the defeat when they head into a Week 2 matchup against the 1-0 Baltimore Ravens.
